Libby McLaren is an exceptional vocalist and multi instrumentalist, featuring
piano and accordion as her main instruments, while blending in tin whistle
and banjo when needed. Prior to joining forces with Robin Flower in 1987, she
toured extensively for five years with the acclaimed sister act, "The Roches",
adding a 4th harmony to their singing while playing synthesizer and piano
accompaniment. She appeared on the Tonight Show, the Dick Cavett Show, and The Late
Show, and a vast array of radio show across the US and Canada. Her keyboard,
vocal, songwriting and arranging talents have appeared on albums released by
Warner Bros., RCA Records, CBS Records, Sony Records, and a myriad of
independent labels.
She also toured for several years as a harmony singer and piano accompanist
with Ronnie Gilbert, from the famous follk group "The Weavers". Libby has
appeared on many recordings, and in this past year most notably on Holly Near's
newest release "Show Up" where she both sang harmony and enjoyed arranging some
of the vocals for that CD. This year also saw the re-release of a disco hit,
yes disco, that Libby co-wrote in 1983. In 1983 it was #2 on the disco charts
for 5 months, and it continues to be a dance sensation in Italy, England and
Poland in 2007. Go figure!
Libby is also the director of The Linwood Project Community Chorus, now
completing its' 10th year. The chorus released a CD in May of this year, "TEN
(1997-2007)", which is very exciting. For more information about the
community chorus, please refer to the page featuring Linwood Project Community Chorus
news and information.
Rounding out Libby's week finds her teaching 55 private students every
week, on piano, accordion, banjo, tin whistle and voice. She considers herself
very fortunate to have such a rich and varied life as a successful musician.
